Desire of words

desig de paraules-llauradoJosefina Llauradó, Desire of words, Alzira, Bromera, 2009 (prize erotic narrative La Vall d’Albaida, 2008)
Llauradó’s book presents an extreme delicacy in the treatment of female eroticism. A suggestive text, as the same cover, which reads as easily as you can eat a cherry-like character makes itself, with an encouraging start, the image of a woman without panties (knickers, in the novel), as the wind brushes her sex and a man who is attracted to this scene.
Is a sensual, erotic, description of feelings and a continuing sexual relationship very genital-provoking in the reader many insights that will eventually become recurrent.

A speech agile, attractive, trapping the reading, although the story has elements that make little progress. Is a static book from the visual view of the description of scenes with a minimal dose of action. Oral literature for children is present in the narratives embedded in the dialogue between the two protagonists, and a reference to the clitoris as a fairy. Certainly suggestive.

Books we have never read

com-parlar-dels-llibresBooks we have never read, Pierre Bayard, Barcelona, Empúries, 2008 (2007)
Bayard’s book stems from the desire to break the taboos of all who read, who have the habit of reading, and often we do not dare express. It is true that some time ago and Daniel Pennac in Like a novel (1992), also published by the same publisher, helped us understand what were the rights that we as readers. Perhaps my generation of readers and teachers has been marked by the will of relative lack of complete knowledge of everything that is published, but at least helped us to understand that reading is primarily a pleasure. A continuous source of knowledge to be placed in the daily reality in which we operate. Bayard now goes further, from his personal experience as a teacher in Paris writing a book essential for readers determined to remain so but are full of complexes at the impossibility of capturing the entire publishing world, classic and contemporary. A book, then, charged with optimism and a little more relative stigmas in which all the readers we have ever felt under “you cannot talk about what you do not know.”
This is by no means an allegory to the ingenuity of speaking without knowledge, nothing further. Bayard deftly addresses limitations on the use that we have global knowledge of our literary tradition, without the requirement needed to absorb each text letter by letter. An essential reference, also made by Bayard, is that of The Man Without Qualities (1880-1942) by Robert Musil, with some very thought-provoking explanations of the librarian about the advantage of not reading any books to know them all. A book I recommend, therefore, for readers eager to read the frustration felt by the infinite nature of literature.
A few sentences to reflect, “being educated does not mean that you have read this book or another. To be educated means knowing a set of guide books and understand that these form a unity. Also, the educated person is able to put each item in this set in relation to the rest. ” (P. 27)

The fairie´s collector

colc2b7leccionista-fadesThe fairie´s collector by Arnal Ballester, Alzira, Bromera, 2009
The format, frankly, seduces. It is a well-constructed novel and suggestive, but it lacks the grit, the strength you’d expect when opening a new book. Hit the jury, although he lacks the spirit that curiously looking for the same protagonist. A fictional recreation of the world of Lewis Carroll that undoubtedly provides the boundaries between what would be the creation of a world for children and obsessions of writers, including the mysterious protagonist of the novel is the diary.
The reflections of the pederast-an expert “tale” (p. 148), as he himself says, in the manner of Crimes of Love (2000) of M. Mercè Roca make you into the mind of the patient: “Now I turn into a predator.” Am I? “ (P. 30). Some doubts and remorse logical characters is a deacon of the Anglican Church and greatly appreciates the moral rigidity of Queen Victoria. As in the history of rock, as a reader, you wander and understand the complex world of the person who is attracted to minors, but they consider their action as a crime. Surely you need the reader of books such as this is not only an understanding of the character, but a more poignant reflection on how this is possible, that is, a more critical and direct message against those actions of which only transmits a beautiful description incomplete.
Fragments of large poeticity as “Memory can use some memories engraved on the stone of my dermis” (p. 33).

Like the constant references to “the other side of the mirror” that we relocate, no doubt, in the world of writer Lewis Carroll and the relativity of conceptions of human behavior: “I write books that are on the other side of the mirror “(p. 82).

Nevertheless, the descriptions about the joys of reading (p. 186) and willingness to address a potential reader (p. 197) the daily novel becomes a kind of game that attracts metaliterary undoubtedly the reader.

aliaga-neons-sodoma1The neon Sodom by Xavier Aliaga, València, Ed 3i4, 2009
A cool book to read with a constant reminder to the narrative of Jorge Sebastian. Urban tale, current direct. With a touch of prose of Ferran Torrent. Suggestive, although I might like to find more passion or extreme situations on the line in which Joan Jordi Miralles wrote in The towering (2005), as I said the same Xavier in Valencia Book Fair this year.

After A peripheral issue (2001), I found a Jordi Sebastia more thoughtful, more autobiographical, more mature. A writerwho knows how to find the right balance between journalism and prose fiction in a few short stories that immediately catchthe reader. With a point of absurdity that refers directly to the very accurate title. A lone male character accompanied by a beautiful women but static, about that nothing can be done to change reality. In short, images of the actual urban man and loneliness caused by the misunderstanding, to which they are subjected to. So, I can highlight the first story, “Gaviotas” exciting, different. It should also thank the relativization that produces the author through the characters of romantic relationships parallel, with the official. A world of secrets left to be redundant as its protagonists underestimate it.

The cold path of the fishes

szalowski-el-frioThe cold path of the fishes by Pierre Szalowski, Barcelona, Random House Mondadori, 2009 (2007, Le froid modifie la Trajectoire des poissons)

Is tender, gentle and true. These are some of the adjectives before a pleasure reading that reminds me, of course, the Booker Prize a few years ago, Life of Pi (2002) by Yann Martel. A story comfortable, attractive to the reader who decides to follow the intrinsic goal of the novel as genre: the enjoyment. With Szalowski history, educational software designer and producer of video games, learn a little more from the mind of a child before the adverse circumstances of his life. A bit like Gemma Lienas excellent novel, The End Game (2003), where as a reader you feel trapped within the mind of a restless young man who sees his world grow with resignation.
This story about the cold in Quebec is a pretext to understand how human beings, in constant crisis, they see the love grow after the need for solidarity, to work together in extreme situations like a storm of freezing rain in that territory. Attractive characters, his friend Alex and his father Alexis, parents in crisis, Martin and Anne, the stripper and Russian student Julie Boris, the pair of gay neighbors, and Michel Simon, cats, dogs, and the protagonist that eventually revealed his name does not end: “I have never said my name. At the last page no longer has any importance.” (P. 210). A good way to finish a novel that certainly weighs-and over-the U.S. will leave all the stories locked. Is a good book to give away.

Letter from a gay father to his daughter

scalise-carta-de-un-padre Letter from a gay father to his daughter by Daniele Scalise, Madrid, Ed Martínez Roca, 2009 (2008)
This book, purchased at the Book Fair in Seville last week, is a proper trial and dispensable. My warnings to find me a text to explain the surprise of the father to the daughter not been met, is a panegyric of normal text, the enviable example of a journalist father who comes out very quickly, without conflict. A staff review the data in Europe the state of homosexuality. Two phrases of interest:
* “Reading taught me to love freedom, to look wherever they nest” (p. 18)
* “Being gay is not a choice but a life force, just as being heterosexual. Orienta our soul and body, makes us human and gives us life, full of sense today, invites us to do projects sentimental and sexual, and pushes us toward the other wherever you are. “(p. 87)

The Confusions of Young Törless

musil-tribulacionesThe Confusions of Young Törless, Robert Musil, Madrid, El Pais, 2003 (1952)
An excellent novel. I read it two years after The Man Without Qualities (1973). For some time this weekend edition had a small pearl that has reminded me many readings on initiatory stories from the Siddhartha (1922) by Hermann Hesse in Quanta, quanta guerra … of Rodoreda, through Henry of Novalis (1802). So many stories in the history of our literature with a growing teenager and wants to reach the adult world without all the keys to learning, you think, as a reader, which you will find yourself a new one. .. On this occasion, Musil makes the heart beat, to the sufferings of the protagonists of this novel in appearance, although its central European origin, British. With some thought to consider:
• “Why we live without reservations, as indivisible in an instant, becomes incomprehensible and confused when we pretend to tie him with the chain of thought to our permanent possessions.” (P. 100)
In short, a text where understanding the relationship between adolescents of different backgrounds and mental functioning on the life of nature but opposed, from the despotic and Reiting Beineberg up the meek and ambiguous Basin. Amid all the young started in life, Torless and tribulations …
