This novel is, in a certain way a continuation of the psychological novel of Benguerel of the limits posed between relationships in an urban society, in full transformation in the fifties and sixties, and attempts to regain normalcy after each increasingly distant war. Thus, before he published The Testament (1955) and The Journey (1957). With characters who do not seek to relativize the scandal and ethical and moral concepts of his time, Benguerel, in a sensible and rational, with just a bit of conflict in the resolution of the story, build a love triangle between an old owner a business, Sebastian Forcadas, the young secretary, first lover and then wife, Irene, and the accountant, Lluís Ribera. All of this is to tell an old story of the world, full of infidelities and secret love on which the reader are the only witnesses and who, through intimate statements of the characters, know the whole situation.
A drama built in the traditional pattern of the love triangle that I immediately connected with the movie sight yesterday, Partir (2009), the French director Catherine Corsini and performed by Kristin Scott Thomas and Sergi Lopez. A curious parallel with a different outcome but also reflective, where the tragedy of the heterosexual couple is brought before the society marked by difficulty of addressing a reality, the crisis in the couple’s affection and knowledge, by one member of a third person with whom sex is discovered, esteem up into a new approach to future prospects. The title is perhaps Benguerel negative because blames the accountant, who love the lover of the owner, and appear to adversely affect the established relationship. Maybe he forgets that the rottenness of the relationship and had destroyed the basis on which he had initiated the relationship, as in the film Corsini with the role of official husband of the heroine.
Interested in the discourse constructed by Benguerel at The intruder, this text will take over the psychologistic monologues, interior monologues and indirect discourse. A tool that takes the author to approximate, using the intimacy of the character. This is another important event in the development of the psychological novel in the Catalonian literature.
