The land set aside

The land set aside, Ibarz Mercè, Barcelona, Ed. 62, 2009 (1992)

After publishing in 1991 a biography of Mercè Rodoreda Ibarz offered us this intimate portrait of their origins, Zaidín, in the Baix Cinca. This is an autobiographical story of freedom struggle of a woman fleeing the countryside, the family tradition, to launch studies in Leiden and later in Barcelona. Perhaps an intimate cry, interesting, attractive to the city core concrete when several subsequent stories by the same author, as the city works (2002).
A descriptive account of some personal experiences that are often subject to a fine irony that draws the reader like this: “When women gave me permission to operate the lever on the machine hot dogs and sausages vera started my adolescence.” ( pp. 19). And actually, that recognized in an epilogue set in the last edition: “In those years since 1992 and the land set aside, I thought, talked, discussed, read, hated again and again the transformation of the rural world” (p.. 108).
